The 2010 Pirelli Star Driver (PSD) program was set-up in 2009 to help find and prosper five young rally drivers who have the potential to become future World Rally Champions. The five drivers are found from regional shoot outs including one from Asia Pacific, one from Africa, one from the Middle East and two from Europe.
In 2009 Hayden was able to qualify for the PSD final by winning the International Rally of Whangarei. Then at Rally Australia Hayden was up against another 5 young hopefuls including 4 up and coming Australians on home turf. The 6 drivers were put through various media and driving test before the event which they were evaluated on including the first day of competition. Hayden and John were the fastest of all the teams over the 9 stages that counted towards the scholarship which combined with the evaluation results from the judges which included Malcolm Wilson and Australian Motorsport greats, Hayden and the team were awarded the once in a life time scholarship.
The scholarship entitles Hayden and John to a fully funded drive in six rounds of the 2010 World Rally Championship including Turkey, Portugal, Finland, Germany, France and GB. Driving professional built and prepared Mitsubishi Evo 10’s from Ralliart Italy each of the five drivers will compete against each other and the best Group N drivers in the World in the PWRC to prove that they are the best.
